Michael Craptree ---

Jeezus -- now saying he'll hold out and re-enter the draft NEXT year because he can't get 5th pick money for being a 10th pick in the draft.

Fine.

We already had Terrell Owens -- and damn it -- a total prima donna who you could REALLY hate because he was/is so damn good. And still, he waited until he showed us SOMETHING before becoming a total prick.

Craptree has shown nothing ... but $20 million isn't enough for him to show up, still having shown nothing.

If he DOES sit it out and enter the draft next year -- I'm thinking 5th round, 157th player selected,

And oh, yeah, the 49er D-lads will be glad to see him on the field.

What a dork.

About the Libyan convict being released on "compassionate grounds"

I do not say this because it's Scotland (all that stuff about how Scots are stingy and such) -- because I think it every time any lifer ANYWHERE  (USA, England, etc) is released on "Compassionate grounds."

I see some warden saying "Fuck this -- my budget's being cut again -- we barely have enough for wiring and plumbing and food -- no way I'm pissing away our funds on hospissing some murderer. Let him go out and die in the street like the people he killed. But....ah, yeah, we'll say it's for "Compassionate reasons"

Regarding Obama's attempts at bipartisanship for Health Care Insurance Reform

I saw Mtch McConnell on CSPAN2 as I was channel surfing, and even the 2 second it took to get his face and body language off my screen was enough to trigger a decades-old memory:

In 1976, I had an aikido instructor, a Vietnamese refugee who was also a 7th degree tae kwan do black belt. This was a man who'd had his own army in Vietnam, causing the NVA to put a price on his head (they were probably right -- he was the sort of person who could inspire the "follow me" response in most people).

One day, explaining aikido to some of his tae kwan do students he talked about and demonstrated synchronization with the opponent, the harmonization that puts you on the same side as your attacker, a harmonization that can turn an opponent into a friend...

"So you do aikido, once to make friend... twice to make friend, three times... and then..." and then he demonstrated Suro maki* (Sword Hand) -- fingers extended and closed, hand thrown with the speed of a rattlesnake, full power striking in and under the ribs of the opponent in order to rip out his liver... "because some people just don't want to be your friend."

Of course, that "1, 2, 3 and then strike home" approach was not consistent with the philosophy set forth by Founder Morihei Ueshiba. But the look that came onto his face after making the sword hand gesture convinced me that, in his life, his use that technique had not been limited to dojo demonstrations.

That would mean that his later study of aikido (2d degree black belt, insofar as there are belts OR degrees in aikido) was going in the direction of making peace, putting the insanity of war behind him.

President Obama -- you understand that health care can not be a supply-and-demand commodity, but a right, so bear in mind, it's a noble thing to seek bipartisan accord, but:

SOME PEOPLE JUST DO NOT WANT TO BE YOUR FRIEND.

*not sure of the spelling of suro maki

William Butler Yeats' observation still dead center on target nearly a century later:

Sarah Palin, Grassley, McConnell, Boehner, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, et al:

From The Second Coming:

The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

Kind of says it all... right now it's the Republicans, but really, over time, it's the only bipartisan standard that's appropriate.

Michael Vick signs with the Eagles

Well... in order to preface this with full disclosure, I would applaud anyone who shoots down planes that hunt wolves.
And I would gladly kick the crap out of anyone who kicks dogs
("How do YOU like it, you chickenshit sonofabitch?").

OK, so you know where I'm coming from.

1) I agree with people who say he did the crime and he did the time so let him be.

2) And I agree with the people who say that using dogs tearing each other to death as a form of entertainment and then torturing and killing them -- ranks right up there with child abuse.

He did the time, but that's no reason anyone should be obliged to pay NFL ticket prices and then have to cheer for him.

I just wonder how many linebackers, safeties, defensive ends, etc are animal lovers.

I guess we'll find out.

Now THAT'S entertainment.

Well, they're either completely insane OR they're lying shamelessly... Although

the two are not mutually exclusive, especially with these guys:

Listening to Senator Grassley;

and Newton Disgraced-Former-Politician-Hoping-People-Have-Short-Memories Gingrich;

and Congressman Boner

and Jabba the Right Winger and Weepy Willie and all the Rest giving the world a big OOO-EEE-OOO about DEATH PANELS and GRANNY SNUFFING, I am remembering a quote from MarkTwain (or someone else)

"A lie can be halfway round the world
before the truth has got its boots on.

Cheney attacks Bush

OK, Tom in Houston -- you've been right all along -- the ONLY decision to make in choosing one candidate over another is which one provides the most entertainment value.

Dick Cheney is criticizing Bush.

RIGHT.

The bloodsucking tick is telling us how the dog finally scratched him off.

The vampire is whining that his victim didn't taste good -- too much broccoli.

The thief is suing the store because he tripped and fell under the weight of the swag he was stealing.

Or the traditional definition of chutzpah: The man who kills both his parents and then pleads for mercy because he's an orphan.

(Or the more modern definition -- Sirhan Sirhan coming up before the parole board and pleading: "But Bobby Kennedy would want you to grant me this." Oh what a fucking terrible coincidence that RFK is dead.)

Hey Dick -- you were the fucking VICE President. The only duties you had were:
--- Hide from daylight
--- Break tie votes in the Senate
--- Plunder the treasury for billions to make payoffs to your pals

And now you're complaining?

Jesus.

I have always loved what they used to call sick humor,
but this is a seriously warped joke.

Go fuck yourself.

Robert Reich writes about the Obama-Big Pharma deal ...

He points out -- ruefully -- that WE (the people) agree not to seek any discount on drug prices for the unbelievably huge quantity we'll be buying from them and in return, THEY back the Health Reform including putting out $150 million in advertising.

HE points out how effective their ads were in killing Health Care Reform in 1994, so that would be good, to have them on the side of a tiny advance in social progress (What's the lovely term politicians use? Have them INSIDE the tent pissing out rather than OUTSIDE the tent pissing in -- pissing, as always, in whatever direction pays the most) and he's PARTLY right when he says:

"Citizens end up paying for advertisements designed to persuade them that the legislation is in their interest. In this case, those payments come in the form of drug prices that will be higher than otherwise, stretching years into the future."

But, like most columnists -- he doesn't mention that we ALSO pay for the ads themselves, the ads being tax deductible, meaning ... hmm, SOMEONE has to make up the tax deficit. And it ain't gonna be elves.

EVERY TIME we see commercials running on TV (or to a lesser price tag, in print media or on radio)-- THEY'RE TAX DEDUCTIBLE!!!

Basic cable, prime-time network, Super Bowl, etc -- again, what I said above -- when the govt calculates how much they need to run their programs -- essential as well as those for political payoffs and plunder(e.g. Halliburton) -- we're all ponying up more out of our pockets than if those ads (intended to make more profits for the companies that run them) WEREN'T tax deductible -- if THEY were paying for those ads themselves.

But if you think the pigs are squealing at the idea of Universal Health Care, the prospect of causing advertisers to shovel less money to the media would make that hideous clatter of greedy noise seem like the soft murmur of gentle waves.

(Altho, granted, not as loud and venomous an outcry as would be heard if congress decided to actually uphold the First Amendment ("Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion...") and eliminate the tax exemption that allows them to make up and spread whatever fantasy tales they have about the Creator and have us pay for the privilege of being harangued by them as they count their money and scold us about having proper spiritual values.

The short version:

The statistics* for the number of deaths attributable to lack of health insurance (1500 per month) are known, SO:

GIVEN that the stated political purpose of the Repugnicans is to postpone postpone postpone action on Health Insurance Reform,

AND since that their position seems to be the direct result of response to the bribes given them by Health Industry Lobbyists (Bribes aka Campaign Contributions)

HOW is that any different from murder for hire?

(Answer -- morally, ethically -- it's not)

***************************************************

Statistically, if you don't have health insurance coverage, you have a 25% greater chance of developing a life-threatening disease or condition than those who have health insurance. Here are some startling statistics from the National Institute of Medicine (IOM) - an educational arm of the National Academy of Sciences:

  1. Lack of health insurance causes 18,000 unnecessary deaths per year.

  2. Adults without health insurance coverage have a 25% greater chance of dying from a disease or condition than those with health insurance coverage.

  3. The nation spends $65 to $130 billon a year in lost resources because of diminished health and premature deaths relating to uninsured Americans

I used to regard Republicans as sincere patriots with a different point of view

I grew up in a leftist family -- my father a solid supporter of the IWW -- the people he admired for having fought and died, putting it all on the line, in order to get rights for American workers, and a supporter of the Abraham Lincoln Battalion during the Spanish Civil War and of the surviving veterans of that fight after the war, calling themselves, only THEN, the Abraham Lincoln Brigade, for the same reason, that they fought and died to oust Generalissimo Francisco Franco, a man who -- like Ferdinand Marcos of the Phillipines, had claimed to be a courageous military hero until people with a different opinion about the conduct of the country won power, at which point both of them -- rather than accept the possibility that a different point of view might be valid, and that the will of the people might be something to respect, became vicious, murdering sonsofbitches. (It was many years before I realized that "Franco-the-murdering-bastard-who-bombed-his-own-people" wasn't his actual name.)

So with Republicans -- my view having long been that Democrats were people who believed the economy would be in good shape if the people were able to survive and flourish contrasted against Republicans who believed that the people would be in good shape if the economy was allowed to flourish unencumbered.

I didn't agree with them, but I had to grant them respect, even grudging, for their honesty (and the possibility that their point of view might be valid, might work).

Or I believed that until the post-Nixon years when they ran the sincere patriots out of the party and became what they seem to be now -- lying cheating thieving walking talking bags of shit spouting bizarrely perverted religious fanaticism as justification for every crime, every ethical monstrosity, every murder.

They lie about anything they don't like, making up incredible crap like "the Democratic Health Care Bill is designed to allow those evil Democrats to force granny to take her own life." They send out thugs (just like they did in the 30's when the Wobblies struck to create unions) to harass and harm anyone who thinks differently than they do, i.e., the Brooks Brothers Riots of the year 2000 sending out Republican staffers to stop the legal process of recount by rioting and threatening the people who were following the law.

Or these days -- sending out rabidly angry people to shout down anyone who actually wants to discuss the pros and cons of Health Care Reform. Thugs. Goons.

This from the party that has so long harangued the rest of us about Law & Order and only stopped ranting hypocritically about Family Values when it turned out that so many of their self-righteous assholes were getting after it in sex with women other than their wives. (And men, despite what their anti-gay hypocritical crap would suggest, men they meet in bathrooms and suck off through glory holes. All that venomous anti-gay hate-rant coming out of their mouths when the fact was it was something quite different going INTO their mouths. Their only allowable intimacy and honesty being with anonymous penises they'll never seer again.)

There are people I know who have been actual Republicans for a long time -- friends -- some of whom (I haven't discussed this with all of them) are ashamed to call themselves Republicans, and while they won't call themselves Democrats, considering that to be -- not without justification -- a jump from the frying pan into the garbage, they have re-registered as Independents (or Decline to State -- depending on in which state they are decline)

Screaming about how Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor is too empathetic, thereby will be biased and make decisions based on emotion rather than law -- not mentioning that the Reagan Administration Houseboy, Clarence Thomas, said the same thing, and he didn't even have a backup position of actually KNOWING the law, that Justice Alito said the same thing, all of which made it obvious that what they were saying was that a woman and a Latina could not conceivably make "good" decisions (i.e., the kind of decisions their white boys -- and the wannabe white boy -- made looking from THEIR perspective.)

Add to that their racially-based attacks on the President, and it's pretty obvious that the Klan still survives, only these days, having thrown out all the rational moderate people, it calls itself the Republican party.

I don't even want to get into their Mommy-hatred here, the slavering attacks directed against Nancy Pelosi, Sonya Sotomayor, et al. Leave that for another rant.

And when I say post-Nixon, it's the same players -- Rumsfeld, Cheney, Bush (pere et fils), Eliot Abrams, Ollie North, time after time, same names, same games. Only NOW those inmates have taken over the asylum, not only chasing out the staff, but even other inmates, ones who may be more rational, the ones who threw their hands up in defeat when they realized you just can't talk sense with these rabid assholes.

So it comes down to this -- these people who are calling themselves Republicans would rather than the entire country sink into economic ruin and be violently and repeatedly attacked, have Americans suffer loss of all they hold dear rather than to allow good things to happen if it's from plans set forth by Democrats, let everyone sink into despair and death rather then allow the Democrats to dig America out of the hole they put us in -- intentionally -- with their plunder and theft (the old Grover Norquist formula of "Spend it all on insane crap so as to honestly tell those "liberals" "Sorry -- there's no money left for YOUR social welfare programs." First tested by Ronnie Reagan whp pissed away the wealth of the nation on Star Wars Anti-Missile Defense -- a bizarre fantasy more suitable to a 9-year-old boy than a 70_ senile president.)

They would rather see many thousands of Americans die from lack of health care than give up the bribes they receive under the euphemism of "Campaign contributions." (Or the promise of future highly paid employment by those companies.)

Either way, to me, that's murder for hire.

The 21st century Republicans --a band of thugs with no honor, no scruples, no ethics, and nothing that even approximates love of country or that word they throw around so much, even though they obviously don't understand what it means -- patriotism.

***************************************************
***************************************************

Interestingly -- since I posted the above this morning, the AFL-CIO has stepped up and will be sending their own people around to deal with the RepubliKlan goon squads being dispatched to stop the political process... the AFL-CIO which had to learn how to handle thugs in order to come into actual existence... an aside, 2-time medal of Honor recipient Major General Smedley Darlington Butler, USMC founded the Veterans of Foreign Wars to represent the interests of soldiers, rather than -- as he put it -- being nothing more than a goon squad of strikebreakers for big business. General Butler was also first asked to ride down on the Bonus Army camped out in Washington D.C. veterans of WWI asking for the $360 they'd been promised. He refused, at which time Dugout Doug MacArthur volunteered to disperse the Army vets, killing a few in the process. This was, of course, YEARS, before his flight from the Phillipines ("I shall return ... once it's safe.") won him the title of "Dugout Doug."

What the Repugnants fear

The remnants of what used to be the Republican party, having successfully purged anyone with more than half a brain over the past 10-20 years is in a state of terror --

It's complex -- there's the fear of being powerless, or as Rush Limbaugh puts it "having to bend over and grab your ankles for a black president." As my wife has pointed out, the likelihood of Limbaugh being ABLE to grab his ankles is beyond imagining. But he seems to keeps talking about being a world-famous sodomizee. (I don't know but I get this seriously unwholesome distasteful image of -- if someone could actually become engorged when looking at that monstrous butt -- Rush squealing in delight and doing a Sally Fields, chirping: "You like me! You really really like me!!)

There's the fear that their unrestrained theft, plunder and payoffs during the Bush-league/Cheney years shows up in unshredded documents that can be used for indictment.

There's the fear of the possible full-tilt Depression happening, and them getting blamed for it.

There's the fear that the big-time bribes they get from their masters will shrink, possibly even disappear.

But the biggest fear of all?

The fear that the Obama Administration might succeed. (We already see them spinning the amazing success of the Cash for Clunkers Program -- 250,000 new cars sold in ONE week -- as if it were a complete failure.)

That's the real fear -- that the multi-cultural society is coming up with solutions they weren't even interested in trying to find.

And they will do ANYTHING they can to make sure the country continues to suffer so they can come in with their BRAND NEW COMPLETELY ORIGINAL PLAN TO CUT TAXES and REPEAL CORPORATE REGULATIONS so as to pretend they're the angels of mercy...

in other words, they only have one real program:

SEDITION
